Getting started

Choose and check your microphone

Make sure Voicy uses the microphone you want, including a headset.

On this page

Mac

  2. Find Increase Microphone input volume and click Adjust volume.
  3. In macOS sound settings, choose Input.
  4. Select the built-in microphone or headset you want.
  5. Speak and check the input level. Raise Input volume if it is too low.

  3. In Windows sound settings, find Input.
  4. Select the microphone or headset you want. Make it the default input if Windows shows that option.
  5. Check that it is not muted and raise Input volume if it is too low.

Linux

Select your microphone before recording. Linux sound settings differ between desktop environments.

Choose a microphone on Linux

  1. Open Voicy → Settings.
  2. Find Increase Microphone input volume and click Adjust volume.
  3. If no sound settings open, open Sound or Audio from your system settings.
  4. Under Input, choose your microphone or headset.
  5. Make sure it is not muted, then speak and check the input level.

Next steps

Voicy uses your computer's selected input microphone. Choose it in your computer's sound settings, then try a recording.

Check that Voicy hears you

  1. Open a note and click in its writing area.
  2. Start a Voicy recording.
  3. Speak a short sentence and watch the blue wave in the recording box.
  4. Stop the recording and check the text.

If the wave does not move, check the microphone's mute switch, its connection, and microphone permission. A headset may have its own physical mute button.

If you just connected a headset

Choose the headset under Input, rather than only choosing it as a speaker or output device. If Voicy still uses the wrong microphone, quit and reopen Voicy after selecting the headset.

If the recording sounds distorted, lower the input volume or move the microphone slightly farther from your mouth.
