Install Voicy and get ready to write
Download the desktop app, complete setup, and try your first recording.
Mac
Download Voicy for Mac from the download page.
Install on Mac
- Open the downloaded .dmg file.
- Drag Voicy into Applications.
- Open Applications, then open Voicy.
- If macOS asks whether you want to open the app, check that it is the Voicy download you just chose and click Open.
During setup, use Enable writing permissions to allow Voicy in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. If asked for Automation permission, allow Voicy to use System Events. Allow microphone access when macOS asks.
Windows
Download Voicy for Windows from the download page.
Install on Windows
- Open your browser's downloads list or your Downloads folder.
- Open the Voicy Setup file you just downloaded.
- Follow the installer, then open Voicy.
- Allow microphone access if Windows asks.
If Windows blocks microphone access, follow Allow microphone access. Windows does not use the Mac Accessibility permission screen.
Linux
Open the Linux download page and choose the package for your system.
Install on Linux
- For Ubuntu or Debian, download the .deb package. For Fedora or RHEL, download the .rpm package.
- Open the package in your system's software installer and choose Install. Enter your computer's password if the installer asks.
- Open Voicy from your app menu.
With AppImage, download the file, open its Properties → Permissions, allow it to run as a program, then open it. The wording of this permission differs between Linux desktops.
If Voicy shows Enable paste on Wayland, click Set up now to let it type into other apps. The setup asks for your computer's password. If it asks you to log out and back in, save your work first. You can choose Later and copy text manually instead.
Next steps
Once Voicy is installed, its setup takes you through a practice recording and choosing your recording keys.
Finish setup
- Click Start setup in Voicy.
- Follow the permission prompts that appear for your computer.
- Click in the practice writing box.
- Tap the recording key shown on screen, then let go. It is normally X on Mac and Windows, or Shift + X on Linux.
- Say a short sentence, then tap the same key again.
- Choose the shortcut you want for everyday use and click Save shortcut.
- Try it in the next practice box, then click Finish setup.
Your words should appear after you stop recording. If you do not see the setup screen, use Write your first text from Voicy's Home page.
