Using Voicy

Change your recording shortcut

Choose comfortable keys to start and stop recording.

On this page

Your recording shortcut starts and stops Voicy while you are working in another app.

Choose your keys

  1. Open Voicy → Home.
  2. Click inside the Change keyboard shortcut box.
  3. Press the keys you want to use together, then release them. For example, hold Ctrl and tap the space bar.
  4. Check that the box shows the keys you chose.
  5. Click Save shortcut.

Press the actual keys. Do not type the words “Ctrl” and “Space” into the box.

Use a mouse button instead

If your mouse has side buttons, or a clickable scroll wheel, you can use one as the recording shortcut.

  1. Click the recording shortcut box in Voicy → Home.
  2. Press the mouse's back side button, forward side button, or middle button once.
  3. Check that the box shows Mouse4, Mouse5, or MouseMiddle.
  4. Click Save shortcut.

Tap that button once to start, then again to stop. Ordinary left and right mouse clicks cannot be assigned. Use the mouse button on its own, without holding a keyboard key.

Try your new shortcut

  1. Open a note and click in its writing area.
  2. Tap the new shortcut once and say a short sentence.
  3. Tap it again to stop.

Your sentence should appear in the note. If another app also uses those keys, choose a different shortcut in Voicy.

Return to the original shortcut

Click Reset shortcut beside the recording shortcut box. Check the box for the restored keys. The usual starting shortcut is X on Mac and Windows, and Shift + X on Linux.

The shortcut for Rewrite Mode is separate. Changing your recording keys does not change your Rewrite Mode keys.
