Fix a recording shortcut that does not work
Check your saved keys and choose a shortcut that another app is not using.
On this page
First check that Voicy is open. Your recording shortcut cannot start the app when it is completely closed.
Check the saved shortcut
- Open Voicy → Home.
- Look at Change keyboard shortcut and note the keys shown.
- Click in a note, then tap those keys once and release them.
- Tap the same keys again to stop.
For a shortcut with two keys, press them together. You only tap to start and stop; do not hold the keys while speaking.
Try a different combination
- Return to Voicy → Home and click the shortcut box.
- Press a different combination and click Save shortcut.
- Try it in a note.
Avoid a shortcut that performs a familiar action in another app. If needed, click Reset shortcut and test the keys then shown in the box.
Restart Voicy
Use Voicy's menu near the clock to choose Quit, then reopen it. Simply closing the window may leave it running.
Computer-specific checks
On Mac, check that Voicy is allowed under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
On Linux, the initial shortcut is Shift + X. Use a combination that includes a modifier such as Ctrl or Shift, rather than a bare letter, especially on GNOME Wayland. If you changed desktop environments or updated Voicy, reopen the app and save the shortcut again.
The recording shortcut and Rewrite Mode shortcut are different. If only rewriting fails, check Enable Rewrite Mode and its own shortcut.
