Rewrite Mode changes text that already exists. You can ask Voicy to make it shorter, more polite, or translate it into another language. An internet connection is needed to rewrite text.

Set up Rewrite Mode

  1. Open Voicy → Rewrite Mode.
  2. Turn on Enable Rewrite Mode.
  3. Find Change rewrite mode shortcut and note the keys shown in its box.

To choose different keys, click the box, press your chosen keys together, and click Save shortcut. This is separate from your normal recording shortcut.

Rewrite a sentence

  1. Open the text you want to change.
  2. Select the words by dragging your mouse across them. The selected words should be highlighted.
  3. Tap your Rewrite Mode shortcut once.
  4. Say an instruction, such as “Make this shorter and friendlier.”
  5. Tap the Rewrite Mode shortcut again to finish.
  6. Read the new version carefully.

In a text field that you can edit, Voicy can replace the selection. If the result appears in a small popup instead, click Copy, then paste it where you want it.

Other instructions to try

Try “Correct the spelling and grammar,” “Turn this into a polite email,” or “Translate this into French.” Say what you want Voicy to do; you do not need a special command format.

If you do not like the result

In an editable document, use the app's Undo command to restore the previous text. On Mac this is usually Command + Z; on Windows and Linux it is usually Ctrl + Z.

For instructions you use often, try Saved rewrite commands. To apply instructions to a new dictation, use Custom Modes.
