Turn an audio or video file into text
Choose a saved recording, wait for its transcript, then copy or download the text.
Transcribe File turns an existing audio or video file into written text. It requires a paid plan and an internet connection. A file can be up to 60 minutes long and must contain audio.
Choose your file
- Open Voicy → Transcribe File.
- Click Add files….
- Find the recording on your computer, select it, and click Open in the file chooser.
- Wait while Voicy shows Converting…, Uploading…, and Transcribing….
- When it says Done, read the transcript below the file name.
You can choose more than one file. Common formats include MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, MOV, and WebM. A video needs a sound track; Voicy transcribes the sound rather than the words shown in the picture.
If Offline mode is on, Voicy asks before sending a file for online transcription. Choose Yes to continue or No to cancel the upload.
Keep your transcript
Click Copy to paste the text into another app. Click Download to save it as a .txt text file. Choose a folder and click Save.
Finished transcripts are saved in Voicy on this computer. Old file entries are cleared when the app starts once they are more than three days old, so download text you want to keep.
If a file fails
Read the message beside the file. Check your internet connection, make sure the original file is still on your computer, and click Retry. If the recording is longer than 60 minutes, use a shorter file. If there is no audio track, choose a recording that contains sound.
Click Remove to remove an entry from Voicy's list. This does not delete the original audio or video file from your computer.
If the page asks you to upgrade, check that you have signed in with the email linked to your paid plan.
