Your voice, on your computer
In Offline mode, the speech model runs on your computer. Normal dictation audio stays on your device.
Does normal offline dictation send audio to the cloud?
No. With Offline mode on and the model ready, normal dictation is transcribed on your computer. You can keep dictating without an internet connection.
What still needs the internet?
Downloading the model, Rewrite Mode, and Custom Modes need a connection. File transcription and retrying an old recording are separate online actions; Voicy asks before sending their audio when Offline mode is on.
Where does my dictation history live?
History is saved locally on your computer. You can turn History off to stop saving new dictations, or delete individual saved entries in the app.
What if I send a problem report?
A report shares the description, diagnostics, and selected transcript you choose to submit. You can untick the audio attachment. Voluntarily submitted reports and attachments are retained for 30 days.
What is offline speech to text?
Offline speech to text converts your spoken words into written text using a speech model on your computer. Once that model is downloaded and ready, you can dictate without an internet connection.
With Voicy, click in a desktop text field and use your usual recording shortcut. Your normal offline dictation is processed on your device. It is useful for writing documents, capturing notes, and getting a first draft onto the screen.

Voicy offers offline dictation in its Mac, Windows, and Linux desktop apps. Windows supports Windows 10 and 11; Mac offline mode requires macOS 15 or later. Choose the Linux package for your distribution and download the speech model while connected.
Offline mode covers normal dictation in 25 languages. Rewrite Mode and Custom Modes require internet. Uploaded-file transcription and retrying an old recording are separate online actions. The app or website where you write still needs its own offline support.
