Privacy Policy & Terms
Voicy is a speech-to-text app that leverages the Whisper API to provide highly accurate transcriptions in over 50 languages.
This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data gathered through the use of the extension.
If you believe that any of our data-handling practices need adjustment, you can contact us at [email protected]. We are always open to feedback!
Data we collect
Voicy only captures audio data that is created when you record your voice. All of your voice recordings are stored on your personal device. The audio file is sent to the Groq API (not to be confused with Grok) for transcription. As soon as the transcription is ready, it is sent back to Voicy to be displayed on the text field that you have used Voicy on.
Voicy does not store any data around your recording and transcription activity.
Voicy only retains critical data for account creation and managing your subscription payments.
Voicy does not sell any data to third-party services.
We retain anonymised usage-data which is only used for analytics purposes. The data points we retain never contain any recording data or words from your transcription. We only store information such as the number of recordings users made, which buttons they clicked, or if they encountered any errors.
In some cases, Voicy will receive anonymized data about the website that it's being used on. This is solely done for the purpose of improving Voicy on all used websites.
Voicy recordings are sent to our servers that are hosted in the EU and US. US servers are reserved for US users. The remaining users are sent to the EU servers.
The transcription and post-processing steps are done through Groq.com (not to be confused with Grok).
Data retention
We do not store any recording or transcription data.
The Groq API does not retain any information we send it as we have enabled their Zero Data Retention settings and we do not use Groq's batch or fine-tuning endpoints.
Use of permissions
Local Storage: We store information on user preferences locally on your browser or device. The data is only used to shape the way Voicy works on your browser and to remember your usage preferences.
You have full control over your preferences and are able to change them at any point in time.
Changes to Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time. If any of the changes relate to the data collection methods mentioned above, we will notify you.
Fair use policy
While our plans allow unlimited usage, this is subject to a Fair Use Policy. Usage significantly exceeding the average use of other customers may be considered excessive. In such cases, we may contact you to discuss alternative plans or, in extreme cases, suspend or terminate your account to maintain service quality for all users.
The fair usage policy is designed so that only the top 0.1% of users are ever affected by usage limits.
The fair usage limit is currently set at above 21 hours of transcription per month.
Misusing the Voicy services
We reserve the right to remove your Voicy access if we deem your use of it as unsafe.
Please note, if we notice that Voicy is being used on more than 2 devices per user account, we reserve the right to terminate your account.
